Coasters That Work!

Includes 4 coasters in Loden Green, Pistachio, Ash Brown, and Chocolate

Each beautiful coaster has a small logo on the underside as a mark of quality

Graf Lantz traditional Bierfilzl ("Beer Felt") are the highest quality German merino wool felt coasters on the market today. Their clean and minimal execution offers an unexpected textural and refined modern heritage element to any home decor. Set includes 4 hand-cut heavy duty 5mm thick wool felt coasters to provide extra surface protection.

Up until the late 19th century, coasters made from wool felt were used in taverns across Bavaria.  These coasters not only served to protect the furniture from unsightly rings but also kept out falling leaves and uninvited flying guests from cold pints.

The invention of thick paper coasters in the 1880s marked the demise of their felt counterparts but happily the original name stuck.  To this day Bavarians call coasters of all kinds Bierfilzl, or beer felt.

In keeping with tradition, Graf Lantz has recreated their Bierfilzl in thick, natural wood felt from Germany.  These handsome, sturdy and durable coasters are sure to protect your surfaces in timeless style.

Care Instructions

Great news! Water will not damage felt. In fact, the material is able to wick away large quantities of moisture - which is why our coasters are so popular! Just let it air dry and, if necessary, lay the product flat with some weight on top just to make sure those wool fibers keep in place.

Wine, oil, and food

  • Step 1: Wet the spot well with a mix of warm water and light detergent until saturated.
  • Step 2: Massage the stain lightly to break up fibers - wait 2 or 3 minutes.
  • Step 3: Pat – don’t rub - the area firmly with an absorbent paper towel to remove moisture.
  • Step 4: Repeat steps 1-3 as necessary till stain visibly lightens.
  • Step 5: Rinse and repeat until detergent clears.
  • Step 6: Pat (again, don’t rub) surface well and lay flat to dry.
